Ribadu accepts appointment as chairman of Nigeria's Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force

OMOTAYO, J. A.    Lagos, NIGERIA    February 11, 2012
When we forget or ignore history, we jeopadise the future. Let me recall a few out of many of Mr. Nuhu Ribadu's incredible past. First, he openly accused the late Mr. Adedibu while delivering a lecture at University of Ibadan. Before his death, Mr. Adedibu stated openly on television that Mr. Ribadu had secretly apologised to him. No one refused Mr. Adelabu's claim. Conclusion: Mr. Ribadu created an unnecessary and unethical sensationalism to get public applause.

(2) When the former World Bank president was accused of favouring his girl friend and he was to be sacked, Mr. Ribadu stated that the man should be forgiven because he (the president) had given a grant to EFCC to take off and had employed an African. The African was not the affected girl friend. The grant was not the offence. Conclusion: he could be swayed by pecuniary or political interests.

(3) When he was removed from the EFCC chair and later dismissed from The Nigerian Police, he went on self-exile. He did not return to Nigeria until he was smuggled in and out by Lagos-based political groups. He was later to express his appreciation after being selected as a party flag bearer. We may ask whether he forgot his family's dictum on call to national service when he went on exile. We may ask why he romanced with the opposition while his travail lasted. Today, he has a different inclination. Conclusion: he is "consistently inconsistent".

(4) There is an agency called NEITI (Nigeria Extrative Industry Transparent Initiative) already charged constitutionally to carry out the duties assigned to the Committee to be chaired by him. As a former police officer, a lawyer and a graduate of Nigeria's Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, did he note that the Committee was an illegal and unconstitutional group? Where and how was the funding of the Committee appropriated in the 2012 budget? How has his training in law been of assistance? Conclusion: his participation is for personal interest rather than national service.

I can go on listing them save for time. Nevertheless, I wish him all the best in this and future engagements. God save Nigeria.

Nuhu Ribadu has bills to pay. He was on his way to obscurity after his foray into national politics. Let us be clear here, NR loved the limelight and he cannot understand how his fans abroad can forget him so soon.
