OMOTAYO, J. A.    Lagos, NIGERIA    October 04, 2013
May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may those injured find favour in God for their quick recovery. May God Almighty console all the families affected.

Beyond all these, I like to make a few remarks:
(i) If the plane suddenly developed a problem just at take off, does not that not imply that the control tower has a fault in this crash especially if the plane stalled due to wake or microburst? A number of miscalculations and errors in judgements have been made in the past at the control tower that resulted in air crashes. The ADC plane that crashed into a village near Ikorodu was a good example. The one that killed the Sultan was another good example.

(ii) The body of the former Ondo State Governor, the late Mr. Olusegun Agagu, according to news would be conveyed to Akure by road this morning for State burial ceremony. Why the change of option after the air crash? Was the road option not there when the expensive air transport option was selected? Thus the idea to fly the body to Akure in the first instance was nothing more than a fantasy after all. Perhaps the losses (men and air craft) would have been avoided if the simple, less expensive road option had been chosen at the onset.

(iii) The number of air crashes in Nigeria has increased in recent years. A look at the list of Ministers appointed to head the aviation industry within this time frame, 1999 - 2013, would reveal them all as misfit professionally to be in such high technology-demanding industry. I still cannot understand why a Minister of Aviation cannot be an Aeronautical Engineer or seasoned Pilot. A non-professional working in the industry as a Minister is, as far as I am concerned, a mediocrity and a misfit.

(iv) No matter how one looks at it, the accident was avoidable. It has happened as a result of gross incompetence, negligence and ignorance of a few misfit in the midst of us all.
Once again, I like to express my condoles to all the good people of Ondo State and wish that God prevents a repeat of such tragedy on all sons and daughters of the State, amen.
God save Nigeria.
