Number of public secondary schools in Edo State reduced from 627 to 295
| September 09, 2009
The number of public secondary schools in Edo State has been reduced from 627 to 295 by the Edo State government. The Edo State government says this is in line with its commitment to improving the standard of education in the state. Some public schools teachers, who had spent over five years in one school, have also been transferred from urban areas to schools in rural areas to ensure that students in rural areas have access to the same quality of education. Also, Governor Oshiomhole of Edo state has directed the state Ministry of Education to ensure that primary and secondary schools teachers in the state can be promoted beyond Grade Level 14 based on merit.
