The North must produce Nigeria's next President, power must remain in the North till 2015 - PDP
| March 03, 2010
The chairman of Nigeria's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, commenting about rotating power between the North and South said “The South has had it for eight years and therefore the North should also hold it for eight years..."

While speaking with reporters after a meeting between governors of PDP controlled states and members of the National Working Committee held at the Kwara State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the PDP National Chairman said the decision was in line with the party's power rotation arrangement.

He said, "We felt that the zoning of the presidency of the party as enshrined in the party’s constitution should be maintained and therefore the zoning arrangement in the constitution should hold for the next four years," said Ogbulafor, who led all members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to the meeting at the Kwara State Governor’s lodge.

“The South has had it for eight years and therefore the North should also hold it for eight years so that we take care of the restiveness in the nation,"

Most analysts have interpreted this declarationto mean that Acting President Goodluck Jonathan fis barred from contesting the 2011 presidential elections on the PDP platform.

The PDP National Chairman also commented on the current situation with President Yar'Adua and when asked if the party has given up on Yar’Adua presidency, he responded saying, "He is still the president and Goodluck Jonathan is still the acting president." He also acknowledged that he has not seen President Yar’Adua, since he returned seven days ago but insisted that there is nothing unusual about that, since he expects that the president should be give enough time to recuperate.

OBJ, You are quite correct. If majority of the electorates in Nigeria are illiterates, what is the point hanging on to DEMOCRACY? Is it because the white folks said we must have democracy?

Because they gave us Jesus and Mohammed hence we must do as they ask?

We need to shine our eyes and tell them to go to HELL, including the IMF, World Bank and the United Nation, a club for those who want to control the world! Our politicians must read history and try to learn from the past. If some of them were able and understood what the Civil War was about, they should have done something to try and prevent it happening again.

Where will what is happening in Plateau State end? Have we forgotten what happened in the North which led to the Civil War? We must shine our eyes and do the right thing before it is too late'

OBJ, this time round, it should be a co-ordinated decision by the Regions/States since if that happens, the North would be unable to attack the Regions/States on its own. Since they took over from the British Colonial masters, they have learnt the skills of divide and rule by redistributing the oil money to the Regions/States to keep them in line. In the United States, thge oil does not belong to the Federal government so why should it be different in Nigeria if they are supposed to model the Nigerian Constitution on the USA Constitution?

I still believe in the idea of the Regions and the benefits we had during the Self-Government era by the Regions. There was competetion between the Regions hence it brought about development at a rapid rate; free education, TV stations and Universities.

The revenues from Cocoa, Coal, Groundnut and Cotton made it all possible. We had no President just the colonial master in the shape of the Governors in the Regions and a Governor General. The Regions were AUTONOMOUS and as such, were able to develop seperately; that is the Nigeria we should have!

We should not allow it to descend to the stage where we will need another Civil War to correct what is wrong in Nigeria. We do not need multi-party systems because it only divides the people. As we already have too many divisions such as Tribes, Languages, Cultures, Traditions, and another foreign introduced division in the form of Religion, Nigeria should try and avoid what happened in the old Yugoslavia, which has now broken up into several independent states. We do not want to go to that extreme hence we should divorce to exist amicably and see the destruction of the oneness we already have, despite the fact we a a Nation with Nations within; shine your eyes before it is too late!

The Almighty will help Nigeria but those in power must also show they need help from their people and not from the White folks. All they want is our resources and our market and also to use us as a dumping ground for their environmental waste they produce!

You all raised good points. The fact remains that the majority of the electorates in Nigeria can neither read nor write; and therefore unaware of what is going on in the country. These are the people that PDP targets with money, and bags of rice. They vote for someone who gave them kick backs without knowledge of the candidate's manifesto, credentials, and ability. Democracy does not work very well in a society with high population of illiterates. It will take magnanimous effort for credible leader to arise in Nigeria.

Ismail wants Nigeria to disintegrate into regions and autonomous. That's what the civil war was about and we all know who did not participate. It is too late for that now; except if another region other the Ibo's are ready to give it a short while the Ibo's stand on the sideline and observe. In addition, you have your wish already. What do you think states are for? The states have the right to tax their citizens and all residents of the state that earn their living there. The states are also limitless on development of their states, and can enter into contractual agreement with foreign companies. The facts are; the states are led by unintelligence’s without knowledge of wealth creation, lacks total managerial acumen, and their sole aim is self enrichment. Until the leadership is properly educated, groomed, and inculcates integrity and honesty into governance, you can disintegrate to ashes, and nothing will change. The states are sitting on the fence waiting for money to come from Abuja. How many states in Nigeria can survive should oil wells dry tomorrow? I think we all know the answer. The center of power in Nigeria is not all to blame for our problems. It is wide spread cronyism and may take years to change. How about Nigerians keeping their surroundings clean? Oh, the president has not said so.

Regarding the PDP and the worthless comments by the zombie, they have already pre-determined the outcome of the election without the populace knowing who the candidates are and hopelessly casting their votes. Again, the rest of the nation can unite and nominate a credible candidate with leadership acumen if there is truly one, and vote him/her into power with mandate. This is probably pipe dream.

Tosin, I don't know what region of the country you hail from, but they were probably on the fence and spectating during the civil war. We are getting what we bargained for. The north has led Nigeria and will continue to lead Nigeria to oblivion until a brave up rising takes place. Who will lead the revolution? Stand by!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. A brave country rises from failure via great leadership, but weak ones withers away quietly. Our country is withering away. It is time to make your contribution and don't sit on the fence and wait for the Golden Fleece.

Tosin, I totally agreed with you, PDP is not Nigeria and they are not contracted to lead Nigeria till 2015.
