Alleged participants in the January 17, 2010 violence in Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria which claimed several lives appeared in court today on charges that included terrorism, murder, illegal possession of firearms, breaking curfew and willful damage of public and private properties. They were arrainged in an Abuja Federal High Court after they had been remanded in Kuje prison last month by the court.
Counsel to the accused challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the case claiming that the offences were all committed in Jos, Plateau State and did not affect any person or property outside Plateau State and so the case should be tried in Plateau state.
The judges adjourned some of the cases to March 18th, March 19th, and March 24th.
