Nigeria's Falconets lose to Germany at finals of U-20 Women's World Cup
| August 02, 2010
The Falconets, Nigeria’s Under-20 female soccer team, on Sunday lost to Germany in the final game of the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The Falconets lost 0-2 to Germany and settled for the silver medal at the tournament. Nigeria's Falconets are the first African team to appear in the final of any FIFA Women’s World Cup or Olympic Games.

The Falconets had defeated Colombia by 1-0 to qualify for the finals.

Germany has won the tournament twice now (first in Thailand in 2004) and have also become the first host country to win the U-20 Women’s World Cup.

In a hard fought game, an early goal and a late own goal (in injury time, a header off a corner kick hit the post and, unfortunately for the Falconets, it hit Osinachi Ohale on the back and went into the goal) gave Germany a 2-0 victory over Nigeria.

Well played Falconets, I would have to say that it was a valiant loss. Making it all the way to the Finals for the first time was quite an achievement in spite of the pre tournament issues following the situation after the mens show in the World cup. The women desrve a heroes welcome when they return home.
