Bobby Farrell, lead singer of Boney M was found dead in his hotel room while on tour in Russia. He had performed the day before in St. Petersburg but complained of breathing problems before and after the show.
Boney M, based in Germany, was an European chart-topping group in the 1970s and scored hits with "Daddy Cool" and their version of "By the Rivers of Babylon" in 1978. The original group broke up in 1986 and Bobby Farrell continued performing under the name Bobby Farrell's Boney M.
The cause of death is unknown, but he was reported to have had health problems in the last 10 years
