A suicide car bomber detonated a bomb at a church in Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria, killing three people and injuring several others.
Witnesses say that a car drove through the church's gate during the early morning service. A witness said, “It was suicide bomber, he drove his car into the church, approaching the pulpit and it exploded. Three members of the church died and 10 are injured,”
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but most people will suspect that Boko Haram, a radical Islamist sect that has recently launched several violent attacks in cities and towns in northern Nigeria, is responsible. Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the bombing of a Catholic church, on Christmas Day, in Madalla, Niger state, which killed at least 44 people.
Soldiers started shooting after the bomb went off and security agents were swiftly deployed in the area.
A spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the explosiong saying, “NEMA confirms three dead in a suspected suicide car explosion in Jos today at a worship centre, including the suspected bomber whose body was shredded to pieces. As at now, 38 victims are on admission in the hospital. NEMA and Red Cross have completed evacuation.”
