Nigeria declares Thursday and Friday public holidays to celebrate Eid El-kabir
| October 23, 2012
Thursday and Friday, October 26 and 27th, have been declared as public holidays in Nigeria to mark the 2012 Eid El-kabir celebrations. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, who congratulated Muslims and called on Nigerians to imbibe and emulate the tenets of Islam as practiced by the holy Prophet Mohammad. Eid El-kabir, also known as Eid al-Adha or Feast of the Sacrifice or Greater Eid, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to honor the willingness of ʾIbrāhīm (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismā'īl (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a sheep to sacrifice instead.
