Lupita Nyong’o to star in and produce a movie adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel “Americanah.”
| June 12, 2014
Oscar winning Kenyan-born actress Lupita Nyongâo is set to star in and produce an adaptation of Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichieâs acclaimed novel âAmericanah.â Lupita Nyong'o, and D2 Productions, Brad Pitt's company Plan B and Potboiler Productions, have secured the rights to develop the novel into a feature film. Speaking about the film, Lupita said she is honored to bring Americanah to the screen. She said, âIt is such an honor to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie's brilliant book to the screen. Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze's stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humor and heart." Chimamanda's novel, Americanah, tells the story of love between Ifemelu and Obinze, two young Nigerians whose romance covers separation across continents and breakups. It also showcases the experiences of the immigrant to America experience and the difficulty of finding your way home. The novel, Americanah, won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction and was selected by the New York Times as one of The 10 Best Books of 2013.
