Ladies & Gentlemen of this forum, Please hear me out:

At about 7:30am, last Saturday, September 16th, 2000, in Nigeria, a young man drove off from his home in Lagos to go to his workplace.

When he got to Agidingbi Road, his car was suddenly blocked off by another car, a bunch of armed robbers jumped out and dragged him out of his car.

According to eye witness accounts, he gave up his vehicle without a fight and did everything the cowards asked him to do.

Still, the armed robbers shot him in the neck and thigh and drove off with his automobile.

He was left helpless at the road side to die.

We understand that several fellow Nigerians passed by him, lying helplessly and struggling to stay alive, but there was no "Good Samaritan", No "911 or 999" emergency telephone number to call for an ambulance. No police officers came to his rescue.

By 9am, Femi Esan had died from the gunshot wounds.

Femi Esan, 1960-2000 - Sun re oMr. Femi Esan was a hardworking Nigerian, a Christian who lived by the doctrine of his religion and was good to so many people.

Femi was my friend and a classmate from our days at Government College Ibadan. Femi also believed in "Nigeria's Promise".

Femi died because of the consequences of poor leadership & government in Nigeria.

Femi died because "we have all stopped caring" and we now glorify wealth irrespective of how people got the wealth.

Femi died because we have lost our moral values.

Ironically, Mr Femi Esan was a strong member of a group of young Nigerians working towards making a positive change in the Nigerian society.

Femi, at 40, was too young to die. He did not deserve to die. Femi was a good guy. He did not steal money from the Government coffers but worked hard at his job to uplift himself and his family.

Femi left behind his wife & 2 young children.

Nigeria lost a great mind and a future God-fearing Leader. Many of us lost a true friend. Femi's family lost a husband/father/son/cousin/relative...

So, when some people on this Net-Nigeria Discussion Group try to justify or otherwise rationalize the existence of armed robbers in Nigeria, just pray that it doesn't happen to someone you know.

Armed robbers attack both the poor and the wealthy, those who stole Nigeria's money and those who have suffered from the nemesis created by the looters of Nigeria's wealth and future.

There is no justification for armed robbery and no one deserves to die a mindless and senseless death.

Femi was a good guy.

He stole from no-one but gave to so many.

Femi was not a government official. He was just another hard working Nigerian gunned down in his youth by the nemesis created by the injustice of our society in Nigeria.

Femi Esan (1960 to 2000): Rest in Peace.
