    Problem Thoughts

Submitted By: John "The Beloved" Ajewole

I thought and thought on a problem,
    How it started, and when,
Counted its growth from one to ten.
My thoughts raced from now back to then.

    Later, my thoughts took a slower pace;
I thought about the people - the who,
The things that caused one to become two
And then three, the results of what I didn't do.

Later, as my thoughts ran on sixty,
I remembered the 'what's' along the way,
What I said and didn't say,
What came, later went, and those that came to stay.

My mind was later blank but soon came back on track,
I remembered the 'time' and the where,
Then trickled down my cheek a little tear,
And I remembered that I was still here.

So many questions ran through my brain,
I had asked myself and others why,
I gave reasons, viewed the high low and high,
Of the time that passed, and why I said 'bye'

An hour passed and still, on went my thoughts
It ran like a train without brakes.
I remembered all the good and fakes,
Including my sweet and sour birthday cakes.

Precious time passed and still, there was nothing
To hold on to, for the problem was round as a ball,
No sides, it was neither short or tall,
I was like a blind man lost in a mall.

Reminiscing on a problem does not help.
It'll waste 'precious time' - while the clock goes tick,
Makes the strongest of men to become weak,
And it'll make you lame when you should kick.

Thoughts on a problem will make it worse,
It'll stain the mind and restrain the will
And make you asleep while you should make a kill.
From the most intelligent, it steals even skill.

Instead of thoughts on a problem,
    Think about a solution,
Things to do: the course of the next action.
Later, put your thoughts in immediate motion.
