Inside The Cult

I went downstairs to see Seyi looking rough, down and tired.
I sighted him first, so I saw this in him.
When he saw me he forced himself to smile.
"Honey, whatz up? Do you have time to spare, I'd like you to walk with me. I want to talk to you" he said.
We took a silent walk to the lagoon front. We sat in silence for close to ten minutes just looking at the peacefulness of the water.
"Honey, I know you're disappointed with me and even if you want to break up with me, I will understand. I broke your trust".
"Exactly, what are you talking about?" I asked
"Come off it, I'm sure you saw my name on the cult list"
"I didn't just find out you were in a cult so, I wasn't surprised. It just was not the right time to come out because I expected you to tell me before it did"
"I tried telling you but I just.... What did you say? You knew I was in cult? When? How?"
I looked at him sadly for some time without talking
"Have you forgotten?, I was friends with Emeka. He blew your ass. You know he has a big mouth. In fact, I had heard about you long before I met you.
I already had an opinion of you because you're a cult boy, but after meeting you I met a different person from the one I thought and expected. All I wanted was for you to tell me the truth" I said.
"Does that mean it's too late. I fucked up I guess.
You know I don't care if everybody knows I'm in a cult, but, the two most important people in my life I dreaded telling most were you and Momsie".
"Have you told her".
"No, I haven't, I have to later, can you ever forgive me? Honey, I really do love you and I never wanted to hurt you."
"Tell me how it started, leaving nothing out. At least I deserve that much".
"It all started from my year one.
You see I entered school with the belief that no one could touch me. I believed I was untouchable and my newfound best friend (Tayo) believed so too. We thought we could stand our ground but we were wrong.
Some ake (Axe) boys started threatening and beating the day lights out of us. When we couldn't take it anymore, I went to see a friend of mine that was like a father to me. He just advised us to join a cult and more befitting, his Mafia. That was how Tayo and I joined Mafia.
"Are you a prominent member? Explain to me how it runs"
"You see, it runs like any organisation does, you have the Exco's (Executive Committee) and the ordinary members.
In my year one I had to go for meeting to avoid been beaten, but year two they slacked a bit, so I didn't go often.
My year three till date I've been an exco, since I wasn't giving anybody any account I nixed a lots of meetings".
"You were not reprimanded because you're an exco?"
"No".
"Who are the Excos?. Explain everything to me because I want to understand how it works and especially if all the rumours I've heard are true".
The Excos comprise the Don, and the consigliere.
The Don is the head, while the second in command is the consigliere, this is whom the people from outside interact with.
Then we have the Capo regimi (Lieutenants). They are divided into three.
- Capo regimi of Hit
- Capo regimi of Intelligence and
- Capo regimi of Information.
Next, we have the elders, then the members.
The confra values its security, so they try to keep the "Jews" out as much as possible (Jews are non-confra that is why we have Capo regimi of intelligence).
They take care of security when a meeting is in progress and also find out info (information) subtly through different ways.
The Capo regimi of Hit is the one that goes out when a "war" breaks (fight among other cults) without the elders approving, Hit cannot be taken by the Don.
The elders comprise of men (Don, Consigliere and two others).
You see confra is not a bad thing really. It's the bad eggs and majorities are bad. Confraternity means brotherhood, so it is supposed to be a haven for all members.
They'll help you in any way they can. But, you see the main purpose of confra has been lost that is why it's now called cult.
When I first joined, you could not miss any lecture or you'd be caned or beaten by the chief whip. Also unnecessary trouble making was disallowed.
In confra now, people mainly join us due to their inferiority complex. It is these people that now shout and jump all over the place. These people know they can't be respected because they're unrespectable so to make people fear or bow to them, they join us.
If a guy comes to meet you and says shut up, if he's not your caliber, you ignore him but if you know he's in cult you'll shut your trap one time.
These are the bad eggs we have amongst us.
Enough of confra. Honey, Am I forgiven? look I need you right now. I need the assurance that I'm not lost, that I have someone to call on, please, forgive me" He pleaded.
I won't lie to myself. I love him, even if I'm not sure what love is, I know I like him a lot. Even if he's in cult which I knew all along, he has never presented himself that way. I'm sure you'll say it's because of what he wants from me, he has never disputed that he wants me but, I can see the love he has for me. I'm willing to take a risk and see where the road will lead us. God help me!
"Seyi, I'm willing to forgive you but, I have to be promised I won't be lied to again. No matter what it is, how big you think it is.
Tell me the truth, have you ever killed before?"
