Africa, where goest thou?
Once on a path towards progress
Seems to be thou hast lost thy way
Thy children are dizzy
As we follow thee in this chosen labyrinth
Independence today, dictatorship tomorrow, rebel forces the next day
Our wardens have locked the gates around us
And barbed wires keep us, thy children, from nourishment
Thy children are dying
As our wardens parade through our ghettos
Drunk with oil, bellies distended with diamonds, pockets bulging with gold
Will these wardens never be replaced?
What then will remain of our inheritance?
Shall thy children not grow?
Who then will recover thy dignity?
Again I ask thee, Africa, where goest thou?
