Chapter 5 - Emeka Olodo, Niran and Sodeinde Hall

previous chapter | next chapter

She was the last person I expected, Oyinda my ex-school mate. We were quite close in school, although I spent just 6 months there while she had been there for three years. When my results came out, I didn't make Physics so my parents enrolled me in a private school to do it again.

"Oyindamola omo-oloro. Are you here?" I asked

"Suly girl where else would I be when Lag was my first and second choice"

"But na wah oh. so what are you reading?" I asked

"Chem. Engr. and you?"

"Comp. Science"

We yarned for a very long time, which of course made me miss my first lecture.

We moved from one topic to another, since she was almost everybody's friend, she told me where most of them were. After we'd been standing on our feet for close to an hour, she now asked me to accompany her to her faculty and I did.

Men! Oyin is a fast duck oh. She was being called from everywhere by her name and some mischievious guys were calling her "Lepa Shandy" meaning "slim".

Oh boy! Oyin is thin, she weighs maybe 45 kg. Although, she is 17, same age as Angel.

I was introduced to so many people that I got dazed. The only name and face that stuck was of Emeka Olodo. I'm sure you'll be wondering why his name stuck. This was because the boy talked me to boredom. After some time, I got used to his droning that made me believe he was actually buzzing.

After staying with her for some time, I went back to the faculty and then on to my room.

By the time I got to the room Bisola was on the bed, she said she got back to campus around 8 am but headed straight for class. She gisted about what happened between her and her boyfriend, just girlish stuff and I told her about Oyinda.

One of our roomates, Tolu Williams, is something else. She's a nice person and neat but the way guys troop to our room you'll trip on the type of guys that came to see her.

Today one spotted face guy came with his friend. I was the one that opened the door to allow them in and after the settled down, she introduced me to them. I guess she was trying to be nice, but to me it was a great mistake because the spotted face idiot came to chat me up. He said his name was Tunde and blah! blah! blah!.

I tried to be polite but I realised my politeness was telling him something else so I became slightly rude. But the guy didn't take the hint or didn't want to. I don't really know but I was really pissed at his persistence. To me he was two p's "pain" and "pest".

After yarning rubbish for a long time, he left with a promise of coming back the next day. That is if the nonetity meets me in the room. I'm definitely going to be out.

Not quite up to 20 min. after his exit, Emeka Olodo came calling , I wasn't all that excited because of his endless talk.

Emeka came in at 5pm and didn't leave till past ten.

The guy was just running his mouth he was picking from topics to topics. You know what they say about people that talk too much, small time now, they start exaggerating.

Bisola seemed to find him a bit interesting, anyway we all gisted and he finally left.

The next day, he came again and it became a ritual for us to expect him at 4:30pm, depending on our mood, we'd cook for him (Bisola and I).

After seeing us for like 4 days, he asked us to come to his room. Bisola told me he was her toaster and he gave her a bottle of perfume to show he really liked her.

Bisola and I left our room around 7:30 pm. His hall was Sodeinde. We went there and saw him in the room with two guys, he introduced us. One was his brother Chima and the other his friend. I didn't catch his name, and my weakness again, I can't remember faces.

Anyway, we were in his room till 9pm just the three of us because his brother and friend left immediately we got there. He also introduced us to Niran, he said they were next door neighbours. Niran also joined in the gist for sometime. We gisted about lots of things. Then he saw us back to our room.

We got to the room to meet lots of messages for us, Dayo and Mike (Aristo) inclusive. Maybe I'll call Mike or maybe not.

The next day Emeka came with Niran, they gisted with us for a long time.

Tunde came to check on me, when he saw I had visitors, he told me to come outside and see him, I obliged. He now asked it I'd considered what he said. I said, I didn't need to because my answer is still no and continue to be. He laughed "Oyin, Honey you don't know me oh! I'm very persistent"

"Don't waste your time with me because I won't give in"

The next thing he started telling me what I'd been doing. How I'd been to Sodeinde and stuffs like that. I was speechless for some time then asked him bluntly "Are you tailing me?"

"Do you think so?" he said laughing. Then he wished me a goodnight and left.

I was still standing at the balcony when Bisola, Emeka and Niran came to meet me and asked if I was okay. I answered affirmatively, but God knows I was quivering with rage inside.

"What fool is this?, Is he monitoring me? Is he stalking me? "Different questions came to my mind. I wasn't even listening to the gist going on around me.

When they decided to go to their room, I was very pleased but on the way Niran pulled me aside and started yarning. I liked him because his conversation was interesting compared to Emeka's own. We were in a world of our own while the other were in theirs.

We both didn't enter the room till like one in the morning, we did our toiletries then headed for the bed straight.

The next week was same old routine lecture theatre (LT), room, Emeka and Niran comes.

Once in a while we follow them to their room same old routine.

I forgot all about Tunde.
